You know how sometimes people on your friends list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.
Please copy mine below, erase my answers putting yours in their place then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration! One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out.
1. First Name: Amber. I've never really gone by nicknames, online or IRL, although I've had various usernames down the years. I've often had wolf-related usernames though, because I'm an internet stereotype of a goth kid like that. I embrace it at this point.
2. Age: 27. Not yet a fandom auntie or mum, maybe more like a fandom older cousin who seems cool and competent and mature but when you go to visit them it turns out they haven't hoovered for weeks and the social events they say they're always busy with are actually just them and one or two friends sitting under blankets on a Sunday afternoon eating pasta and talking about Pokemon.
3. Location: London, England, with monthly sojourns to my seaside hometown in Sussex where my mum and gran still live.
4. Occupation: Fundraiser for a national museum group which specializes in military and wartime social history and Holocaust education. It's often crushingly heavy and always under-paid, but I've always felt I have an inborn duty to face and corral bad things so others can learn how to resist them without painful full exposure. Making lots of dark sticky money at a private bank would kill my heart faster than this ever will.
5. Partner: Nope. I've had some bad experiences with that sort of thing and I'm not in the right headspace to try again at this stage in life.
6. Kids: Nope nope nope. I'm not fond. I can't see myself ever doing it.
7. Brothers/Sisters: Another nope. I was a very solitary kiddo and would probably have either eaten or been eaten by any competition.
8. Pets: Our next-door-but-one neighbors have a black and white cat who gets put out for the evening at 6:30pm and immediately comes and waits on my doorstep for me to get home as 7pm so he can come in, run round my house for a while and then sleep til 10pm on my chair. His actual name is Sunny, but we call him Tuxedo Goblin, The Beast, or Fuckboy Tim.
9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
• My job (see above)
• My close relationship with my best friend, who I've know for 15 years and live with, and her LDR partner from New Zealand who stays with us for stretches at a time. They're basically my whole IRL social circle.
• Managing my health and wellbeing. I have a chronic immune disorder that is invisible but affects everything about me, post-traumatic issues, and am on the autistic spectrum which can make proper self-care hard. I take 3 medications daily and see a psych therapist twice a month. Recovery isn't linear and I will never be the person I would've become if certain things hadn't happened, but I believe you only get one go at this world and consequently I've made a major effort over the last two years to become the best version of me that can exist under the circumstances.
• The Ghost fandom! I am so much more able to be social online, and I am at the most personable and creative I've been in a long while because of this community.
10. Parents: My mother is a foot taller than me, two dress sizes smaller than me, looks ten years younger than she is, and is an experienced office manager by day and a Latin and Humanities scholar by night. Despite all this, she seems to be convinced more often than not that she's no good. I haven't been able to convince her otherwise, so any suggestions are welcome. We had some tough times when I was a teen and she was going through a divorce, but we have a good relationship now, barring the odd socio-political spat. I may not have her looks at all, but mentally we're very alike.
I haven't seen my dad in about five years, as he prefers his narcissistic wife and milquetoast stepson to me.
11. Who are some of your closest friends?
See my living situation above. Bethan has known me since I was 12 years old and has stuck with me through all my naïve mistakes and willful gremlin phases, and I through hers. Ashlee has only known me for three years but I found it easy to talk to her from day one, and her evident love for the person I value most in the world cements our bond. When she stays with us, I don't have to come home to an empty house after a long work day.
